Nuwan Kulasekara is a Sri Lankan Cricketer who was born on July 22, 1982, in Nittambuwa, Sri Lanka. He used to play softball before becoming a cricketer. His full name is Kulasekara Mudiyanselage Dinesh Nuwan Kulasekara which is hard to remember. His nickname is Kule. He was brought up in a small village with limited resources and moved to the city at the age of 17 years where his journey to the cricket was started.
A competent and successful medium-pace bowler, who can swing the ball in starting few overs, and also can bat in late overs, Kulasekara is considered as one of the best swing bowlers in the world, who once ranked number one in the ODI bowlers rankings as well. In June 2016 he retired from Test cricket, because of a major problem to play limited over cricket.

Kulasekara was delayed by Kadawatha police on 19 September 2016, after being complicated in a road accident. But, Kulasekara made before the Mahara Magistrate and has been allowed to leave on bail of five lakhs because of the death of a 28-year-old motorcycle rider from the accident. The accident happened near the Kirillawella junction in Kadawatha in the afternoon, where the rider was coming from the opposite side to the Kulasekara’s vehicle and has overtaken a bus and then crashed onto its league, where he was thrown onto a patch of Kulasekara’s vehicle.
After the incident, of Kulasekara’s father paid his sympathies to the dead rider’s family, where his mother then told that both Kulasekara and his son went to the same school. His mother also told that his son was very keen on sports and also a fan of Kulasekara. Before being arrest he also took part in the practice pitch opening ceremony of Colombo Hindu College on the same date in the morning.

Education: In his youth, he used to play cricket with a tennis ball. In the village of Ranpokunagama, in the western Province, he attended local schools in the village of Ranpokunagama, in the western province. He moved to Bandaranaike College in Gampaha at the age of 17 years, and that’s when he started bowling with the hard ball when one of his friends suggested him to do so. He soon began to improve with his bowling tactics. Soon he got attention by a fast bowler coach Champaka Ramanayake, who helped him in setting up in a first-class cricket team which turned his life.
Career: Before his outstanding debut, he was playing for Nugegoda Cricket Club for four years. Then he was picked for the training at the Max Cricket Academy where he played against India and Pakistan in an Emerging Team Trophy Tournament in the year 2013. On his first one-day International debut in 2003 when he was 21 years old, he picked up 2 wickets against England and marked his presence incredibly.
Having no previous cricket history his selection for that match was a surprise and he proved this decision taken by selectors’ team to be correct. In 2005, he made his test cricket debut against New Zealand. In a test against England in Lord’s 2006, he batting at no.10 made first fifty of his career with 67 runs and Sri Lanka drew the series by 1-1.
In the year 2008, he picked 47 wickets in a period of 11 months by which he secured the no.1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings for bowlers. He was chosen to be a part of ICC world ODI team for the year 2009. In the IPL season of 2011, he was bought by Chennai Super Kings for $100,000. In January 2013 he got his first five-wicket haul in his third one-day international against Australia at Brisbane which was his best in ODI career with 5 wickets for just 22 runs.
He has got retired in June 2016 from test cricket. He played in 21 tests and picked up 48 wickets. His last test was in June 2014 at Lord’s, when he took four wickets conceding 21 runs.
He has taken 186 wickets in 173 one day International played by him with an average of 34.08. Currently, he is in the sixth place of bowling in the world ODI and T20I formats because of the ability to swing the ball in and outside as well. He has built a world record for bowling the most number of maiden overs in his career in the history of T20 Cricket. He is the only bowler having more than 5 maiden overs in his career of T20 International.

He had also once made a thrilling score of 74 runs against Australia. He has also won the best bowler Award in Sri Lankan domestic Cricket during 2002-03.
